Sirius Comedy – SiriusBuzz All Things SiriusXM Satellite Radio Thu, 19 Nov 2015 23:01:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Jeff Foxworthy and Larry The Cable Guy Team Up With SiriusXM Mon, 16 Mar 2015 14:26:34 +0000 → Read More]]>

Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy will not only contribute, but serve as executive producers of  a new channel of exclusive comedy material that listeners will not hear anywhere other than at the comedy stars' live comedy shows.  Comedy channels have been a staple on Sirius XM since its inception.  They oft provide a needed break from news programming and music channels.  Foxworthy and Larry are well known and respected in Comedy and bring a brand of humor that is a great match for the satellite waves.  The new comedy channel will debut later this year.

Jeff Foxworthy is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country.  He is the largest selling comedy-recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy Award nominee and best-selling author of more than 26 books. He was recently inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame for his accomplishments.  Jeff will once again be hosting the FOX television game show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, set to premiere in 2015.

Larry the Cable Guy is a multiplatinum recording artist, Grammy nominee, Billboard award winner and one of the top comedians in the country.  His television shows, comedy and variety specials have all been ratings successes, and he has appeared in many successful films, including as the voice of the beloved Mater in the Golden Globe Award-winning animated feature film, "Cars."

The new channel from Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy joins a robust comedy lineup on SiriusXM featuring Comedy Central Radio, Jamie Foxx's The Foxxhole channel, Carlin's Corner, Laugh USA, and Raw Dog Comedy Hits and more.

SiriusXM teaming up with the duo is a natural solution that could well benefit both parties in this equation.  Foxworth and Larry The Cable Guy get to continue to expand their brand and awareness, while SiriusXM gets to capitalize on that same brand and awareness.  The biggest winner may well be satellite radio subscribers that receive unparallelled content that is simply not available elsewhere.

Sirius XM Launches “The Phone Show” – A Compelling Addition To Their Comedy Channels Wed, 15 Jun 2011 20:05:41 +0000 → Read More]]> It is a wonderful concept that demonstrates the distinct advantages Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI) has in the content landscape as competitors such as Pandora (NYSE:P) try to increase their presence in the world of audio entertainment. Sirius XM announced today that their Raw Dog Comedy Channel will feature a brand new show called "The Phone Show".

The Phone Show promises to be a radio version of reality television, where listeners an will get an uncensored platform to say whatever they want. The show will invite listeners to be featured live on Sirius XM’s Raw Dog Comedy channel, where the mission is to entertain or be hung up on. Hosted by Raw Dog Comedy’s Steve Sturniolo, who will play a "Simon Cowell" type role, “The Phone Show” will launch with a special week-long premiere event Monday, June 20 to Friday, June 24.

Millions of Listeners, One Phone: One Winner Chosen on SiriusXM’s “The Phone Show.”

SiriusXM flagship comedy channel Raw Dog Comedy puts no limits on listeners other than to be entertaining. The brave will call, the best will shine and the boring will be hung up on.

From political rants and expletive-filled complaints to jokes, songs, or a description of that day’s breakfast, there is no limit to what callers can talk about on “The Phone Show” but they will be cut off the second Sturniolo finds the conversation boring.

This should deliver some pretty compelling and interesting radio that will have listeners tuned in simply to hear what people will come up with next. One major part of radio being radio is a connection with the audience. This is somewhat lost on many of the music channels (and non-existent on services like Pandora), but the talk side of Sirius XM has always maintained a connection that keeps listeners coming back. In my mind this is perhaps one of the most compelling content decisions in recent memory, and the best part is that Sirius XM will be getting this content FREE!

“With a tip of the hat to Speakers’ Corner in London and a dash of Chuck Barris, ‘The Phone Show’ will be part soap box, part train wreck, part circus – and one hour of frenetic user-generated content,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “We are excited to give callers a completely open and uncensored forum to speak their minds, and to hear the good, the bad, the ugly and the great on SiriusXM’s ‘The Phone Show’ – only the brave should apply.”

Phone lines will be open during the “practice rounds” of “The Phone Show” from 1:00 –2:00 pm ET beginning Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22 on Raw Dog Comedy, channel 99, for SiriusXM listeners to call in.

On Thursday, June 23, listeners are invited to call in between 1:00 and 2:00 pm ET to compete during “The Phone Show” competition. Callers will be judged on creativity, relevance and entertainment value by “The Phone Show” judges for a chance to win the $5,000 prize. See Official Rules for complete details at

“The Phone Show” winner will be announced during the finale of “The Phone Show” after SiriusXM listeners are invited to call in to offer their assessments of the five finalists on Friday, June 24 at 1:00 pm ET.

Listeners are invited to call 877-456-2888 to participate in “The Phone Show.”

Sirius XM Celebrates Comedian Richard Pryor Tue, 21 Dec 2010 06:01:20 +0000 → Read More]]> One of the great things about satellite radio is that it uncensored. It isn't a burning desire to hear cursing that makes uncensored great, it is the fact that you can hear unique talk and musical content that is representative of that respective artist rather than some watered down or politically correct version. Satellite Radio is about expression in the purest form. No matter what your taste, you can certainly appreciate the content on Sirius XM.

Another special aspect of satellite radio is that it carries the ability to offer content that traditional radio simply can not match. The latest news is a shining example of what makes satellite radio special. The company recently announced that it will launch "Richard Pryor Radio," a four-day uncensored channel devoted to the legendary comedian's decades of groundbreaking work.

Pryor, a pioneer in comedy, is widely considered one of the most innovative and daring comic talents of our time. He explored controversial issues of racial inequity with great insight, and was not only prolific on stage, but enjoyed a great film career as well . Pryor would have celebrated his 70th birthday this month.

"Richard Pryor Radio" will launch December 30 at 5:00 am ET and will run through 11:59 pm ET on January 2 on SIRIUS channel 108 and XM channel 139. The special run channel will offer listeners the chance to hear Pryor's work in its purest form: raw, unedited and uncensored. The channel will feature hundreds of tracks from live concert performances, stand-up gigs and his seminal comedy albums spanning 1968-1992.

"SIRIUS XM's 'Richard Pryor Radio' is the perfect way to pay tribute to Richard on his 70th birthday," said Jennifer Lee Pryor. "A four-day celebration of his body of work—completely uncensored and available to millions of fans across the country—is exactly what he would have wanted."

"Richard Pryor Radio" is the latest in a long list of specialized content offered by Sirius XM to subscribers. These channels often include musical talent, but Sirius XM is stretching the radio dial further by offering comedy and talk channels as well. These channels really give fans a chance to not only hear a body of work, but to catch some pretty exclusive behind the scenes insight as well.

If you love good comedy be sure to tune in and catch the work of one of comedy's most dynamic performers. The action starts December 30th.

Conan O’Brien On Sirius XM Sun, 22 Aug 2010 19:55:16 +0000 → Read More]]> Former Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien has made several headlines this summer with his departure from the Tonight Show, and the upcoming debut on a new late night slot on TBS this November. He has been the subject of numerous articles and is oft discussed on talk radio. He got a golden parachute from NBC when leaving the Tonight Show, and took some well deserved time off, but he has not been too lazy.

O'Brien has been on his "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour" and has even taken the time to cut a comedy album. The new album, "And They Call Me Mad?", will debut on Sirius XM's Raw Dog Comedy channel Monday, August 23, 2010 at noon, one day before the official launch. Sirius XM has been very active in getting high profile celebrities and musicians to launch exclusive material on the satellite radio network. Accomplishing this is no small feat, and subscribers get yet another look at what differentiates Sirius XM from competitors.

Conan O'Brien's new album spoofs the legend of Frankenstein, and if you want to hear it first you will need to tune in to Sirius XM's raw Dog Comedy.

Jamie Foxx Officially Launches The Foxxhole Channel Tue, 22 May 2007 01:15:55 +0000 → Read More]]> jamie foxx with oscarBack in January we reported Sirius’ acquisition of the triple threat actor, comedian, and now music artist Jamie Foxx to create and produce his own channel. After reporting that the channel would be coming to the lineup “sometime in the Spring”, Sirius reported today that The Foxxhole was made available on SIRIUS channel 106, on May 17th. I have no idea why they decided to make a press release 4 days after the channel was launched but, nonetheless The Foxxhole is open for business.

It has been said that Foxx will broadcast live on his new channel with exclusives from “wherever he is in the world.” Now, I’m not sure how Sirius actually plans to pull this off in a live format but, it will be interesting to see if this turns into an “around the world” with Jamie type broadcast.

For the record, channel 106 is currently available and pumping out interviews, music, and comedy in rapid fire succession on the Sirius internet stream. I am actually listening to a live performance of Jamie singing “DJ Play A Love Song” right now and it's entertaining as hell because he is mixing in some jokes during the low spots. Although I’d rather listen to him just be funny, his voice isn’t half bad.
