The Plus also offers the 20+ expanded channel line up with more music, sports, comedy, and Spanish language channels. And with more channels, you’ll need more programmable channels. You can pick it up today for just $79.99, that's $20 off MSRP.

With this new technology you’ll also find features like TuneStart, TuneMix, TuneScan. Much like the mobile app, the Onyx features settings that allow you to start songs from the begging when you change channels, blend music from your favorite channels, and select previously played songs to be played again.

Plus also has a few niceties we have come to expect from SiriusXM including pause, rewind, replay as well as song, artist, and game alerts. You can even lock and unlock channels with mature content.

The new Onyx also comes with a vehicle kit and utilizes the same universal dock as previous versions. This means you don’t have to toss out that old compatible dock or boombox.

Stream SiriusXM Through Your Home Stereo With ORB http://siriusbuzz.com/stream-siriusxm-through-your-home-stereo-with-orb.php http://siriusbuzz.com/stream-siriusxm-through-your-home-stereo-with-orb.php#comments Wed, 23 Jan 2013 13:57:35 +0000 http://siriusbuzz.com/?p=16050 → Read More]]> SiriusXM was fairly quiet at the Consumer Electronics Show this year but, that doesn't mean some cool new products related to satellite radio are not kicking around. In fact, one product in particular, ORB, comes in at a great price point and offers functionality that SiriusXM subscribers will love. Have you wanted to stream SiriusXM in your home, but do not want the satellite antenna cable running across your floor? ORB is your answer! Would you like the ability to use your iPhone or Android smartphone as a remote control? ORB is your answer.

The team at TSS-Radio sent over an ORB for some testing and review. After a quick and easy hook-up I was streaming SiriusXM through my home stereo and controlling the content as well as volume with my smartphone. The best part was that I was controlling this from anywhere in my home. Needless to say, I was impressed with the platform, app, and hardware. What was perhaps more impressive was the price point.

While there are some quality devices out there that allow for streaming, many come with a hefty price tag. The Logitech Squeezebox and some players from Sonos can cost hundreds of dollars. In contrast the ORB is just $79.99 at TSS-Radio! For under $100 you can stream SiriusXM Internet Radio through your home system with relative ease AND use your smartphone to control it all!

How It Works

Orb Music connects to any stereo and transforms it into a wireless, internet device! With Orb's AllPlay, stream straight from your phone to your Stereo - SiriusXM, Pandora Radio or content that's stored on your phone. But it doesn't end there. You can also wirelessly stream your entire music collection stored on your PC / Home Network to any Orb-enabled stereo. All controlled using your smartphone or tablet.

Setup is simple. First, you add Orb Muisc to your WiFi home network by plugging it into your PC and following a short Setup Wizard. Then unplug Orb Music from your PC and connect it to the stereo of your choice - powered speakers, portable music player or even your Home Theater system. Anything with an input jack will work.

The final step is to download Orb Controller from Apple's App Store or the Android Marketplace. Using this app, pick which Orb Music you want to stream to (you can have as many as you like), then pick the music you want to listen to. Choose from music that's on your device (phone/tablet), music services (SiriusXM Internet Radio, Pandora Radio, LastFM, Vevo, internet radio stations) or browse through your entire iTunes collection on your computer or home network.

It is really That simple!

If you are a SiriusXM fan a product like ORB is a solution you have been seeking. Does that new Samsung television offer scores of apps but lack SiriusXM? Don't drive yourself crazy. The ORB was designed for ease of use and because the smartphone becomes your remote control, it is a breeze finding and changing channels. The ORB eliminates confusion and endless menus that you need to otherwise surf through on a television or stereo remote.

Readers can order ORB from TSS-Radio, our site sponsor. At a price point of $79.99 you can't go wrong! I was so impressed with the ORB that SiriusBuzz will throw in a promotion as well. If you are a SiriusBuzz Premium member you can get a $10 rebate directly from SiriusBuzz! Simply purchase an ORB from TSS-Radio between now and January 31, 2013, email a copy of your receipt to satellitestandard@gmail.com and I will send you $10. The SiriusBuzz rebate is not affiliated with TSS-Radio but rather a way for SiriusBuzz Premium members to get some value added benefit as a thank you for joining.

Sirius XM Announces Next Generation Equipment http://siriusbuzz.com/next-generation-sirius-xm-equipment-announced.php http://siriusbuzz.com/next-generation-sirius-xm-equipment-announced.php#respond Fri, 27 Jul 2012 14:01:02 +0000 http://siriusbuzz.com/?p=11577 → Read More]]> The quick eyes over at Twice caught some great news for Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI) subscribers. Dice Electronics has announced that it will be developing its next generation of OE-integration kits to connect Sirius XM's SXV200V1 "universal" black-box tuner to factory sound systems. What's the big deal? Read on and you shall see!

These next generation aftermarket devices will enable capable factory installed sound systems to stream the expanded lineup of Sirius XM channels. That's right, Satellite Radio 2.0 will be more available for consumers with the addition of a simple device! This means more channels, more capability, and a better consumer experience.

Dice hopes to integrate four key features into the system:

  • Tune Start, which begins playing the current song from the beginning when a user tunes to a new music channel.
  • Show Finder is an electronic programming guide showing seven days with of programming.
  • Featured Favorites consists of channel collections selected by the Sirius XM programming team.
  • A fourth feature is still TOP SECRET and will be unveiled later this year, giving us all something new to speculate about.

Connectivity to the SXV200V1 will be included in DICE's integration kits. This will enable factory-head control of iPhones and iPods and previously allowed for the addition of the Sirius SC-1 satellite tuner. The kits will also enable factory heads to control an iPhone-installed Livio Internet radio app, enabling the head units to select thousands of Internet stations including Sirius XM Internet Radio.

Dice has not stopped there. The company is also developing a flagship MediaBridge kit, which on top of the features described above will also add USB digital audio playback of files stored on USB drives in various formats, and it will also add stereo Bluetooth A2DP streaming with AVRCP. This enables wireless control of certain functions used to control streaming apps such as Livio, Pandora, and Spotify, as well as smartphones.

Even better, DICE's current pricing will not break the bank! The base kit should carry a suggested retail price of $189, while the MediaBridge should come in at about $299.

Its Been a Buggy Week for the Sirius Stiletto 2 http://siriusbuzz.com/its-been-a-buggy-week-for-the-sirius-stiletto-2.php http://siriusbuzz.com/its-been-a-buggy-week-for-the-sirius-stiletto-2.php#comments Tue, 17 Jul 2012 21:32:26 +0000 http://siriusbuzz.com/?p=11511 → Read More]]> If you happen to be the owner of a Sirius Stiletto 2 you've probably spent the last week contemplating firing that little black brick out a window – the good news is, you're not alone and we finally have a fix.

On Wednesday July 11th many Sirius subscribers awoke to find their radios "unsubscribed" and rendered useless in an event that SiriusXM customer service has described as an outage, update bug, and even a satellite malfunction. Whatever the real issue was, about 24 hours later the problem was seemingly fixed for everyone accept those faithful show curating Stiletto 2 owners.

Although the satellite feed was back up and running, the Stiletto 2 was still not able access any precious recordings. Instead owners were greeted with a screen saying they needed to subscribe the radio to use that function – what the what? Hang in there, a solution is coming...

After days of frustration and a couple of software updates documented by SL2 owners in the forums there is now a fix and the solution is a simple one. Simply dock the device, set the channel to 0, and sit back and relax while your Stiletto 2 updates the final update needed for fully functional glory.

Its been a long week for patient SL2 owners and although most are happy to put this all behind them, there are still a couple of isolated incidents of people experiencing issues such as not being able to access their “best of xm”channels. If you happen to be one of those people, the forums are lighting up with new Stiletto 2 members tracking the issues and ready to lend a helping hand.

[Special thanks to Pericles and all the new members of the forum for helping each other out.]

At around 4pm today Sirius XM announced the launch of the Lynx, their new 2.0 portable radio.

Some have said that this new $249 gadget is no game changer but, it does deliver some important features such as time shifting, that fans of satellite radio have been asking for all along. Like the recent iPhone/iPad app update, the Lynx will give subscribers the control to listen to what they want, when they want and not be locked into someone else's schedule.

The list of key satellite radio features include;

  • Tune Start™: Automatically starts the currently playing song from the beginning when tuning into a "favorite" channel.
  • Radio Replays: Subscribers can build a library of up to 200 hours of automatically recorded programming from their "favorite" satellite radio channels.
  • Pause, Rewind and Replay: Listeners can replay up to 30 minutes of live Sirius XM content on the currently tuned channel and the 5 currently displayed favorite preset channels.
  • Featured Favorites™: A dynamic set of presets that can be automatically added as favorite channels, allowing users to easily discover new and specialty programming.
  • Show Finder™: An electronic programming guide offering a complete list of what's on over the next 7 days by channel, with the ability to set reminder alerts.

In addition, the Lynx also offers a few key Wi-Fi features;

  • Start Now allows subscribers to go back 5 hours to select and listen to previously broadcast programming.
  • View program information, album art, and read artist bios.
  • Rewind to hear programming again or skip forward to hear what's playing next.
  • Pause live radio and pick up right where the listener left off
  • Access to Show Finder™, the electronic programming guide.

Both the vehicle and home kit boast simple to use and setup bluetooth functionality with a suggested retail price of $69.99. At over $300, the total package isn’t going to be cheap (especially with upcoming price hikes) but, for die hard fans, it may be worth the price.

Hands On Reveiw Of Sirius XM’s Edge – Satellite Radio 2.0’s Debut Product http://siriusbuzz.com/hands-on-reveiw-of-sirius-xms-edge-satellite-radio-2-0s-debut-product.php http://siriusbuzz.com/hands-on-reveiw-of-sirius-xms-edge-satellite-radio-2-0s-debut-product.php#comments Mon, 07 Nov 2011 18:44:04 +0000 http://siriusbuzz.com/?p=9747 → Read More]]> It has been quite some time since we have had our hands on a new retail satellite radio. Sirius XM had not developed anything new and exciting in almost two years, and it was beginning to look like 2011 would be another ho-hum year on the news front of compelling new hardware. We recently got a hands on look at Sirius XM's new Edge radio thanks to one of our site sponsors, TSS-Radio.

Sirius XM's Edge gives consumers a brand new look with the many of the capabilities that were once reserved for more expensive units. With the Edge Sirius XM has delivered a highly capable radio at a price point consumers can handle with relative ease. It is a great solution for most any user that is seeking a newer radio, cleaner look, or more capability. In this simple yet capable radio Sirius XM has hit a virtual home run.

The Edge is a great combination of form and function. The user is not overwhelmed with buttons and control interfaces. Instead we see simple 0-9 inputs, play, pause, rewind buttons, a function knob, and category shifters. The user interface is intuitive and figuring out how to navigate Sirius XM's 150 channels is something even a five year old could do. Simply stated, it is a joy to be able to see an easy to use radio that still carries a range of capabilities. The Edge is worth a consideration because of all that is being offered on top of the new channels.

Features Include:

  • Enjoy SiriusXM's Xtra channels - a number of additional comedy and music channels as well as SiriusXM Latino, a set of dedicated Latin music, sports and talk channels.
  • Pause, rewind and replay up to 30 minutes of live satellite radio.
  • View artist name, song title, and channel information on the large color graphic display.
  • Listen at home, at the office, outdoors or in multiple vehicles with optional accessory kits - all with just one subscription.
  • Hear SiriusXM through your existing vehicle radio with easy, do-it-yourself installation.
  • Browse other channels while listening to the current one.
  • Store up to 10 of your favorite channels for one-touch access.
  • Lock and unlock channels with mature content using easy-to-use parental control.
  • Optimize PowerConnect™ performance with easy FM tuning.
  • One-Touch Jump™ to traffic and weather for the city of your choice, or back to your previous channel.
  • Includes PowerConnect™ Vehicle Kit.
  • Works on the XM network.

The presentation of this product, like most other Sirius XM products, was well thought out. The radio, cables, antenna, and instruction manual are all well displayed inside a compact box that allows the consumer to see each component and understand what each item does. Self installation should be a breeze for almost any consumer, with the most difficult aspect being the antenna placement and getting the antenna wire to the receiver. The included car dock has all of the necessary inputs located in such a way as to allow for a clean looking installation even by the most technically challenged people.

The high points of this radio include the added channels, the big color screen, the easy to navigate menus, and PowerConnect, a feature that allows the Edge to be used with several Sirius XM accessories including home kits and speaker boxes. The Sirius XM Edge is a great solution that makes an upgrade from your older radio worth while. With the price point of just over $100 after rebate, it is a no brainer for almost anyone who simply wants a fresher and cleaner look in their dashboard.

I have been a huge satellite radio fan for years, and despite that fact I have never carried a factory installed subscription longer than the promotional period. I have simply preferred the added capabilities offered by the retail radios. For the last three years I have enjoyed the XM SkyDock used in conjunction with my iPod or iPhone. Using the Edge over the past week has almost made me consider switching away from the SkyDock. Yes, the Edge is THAT GOOD! I will actually miss this demo unit when I send it back to TSS-Radio.

The beauty of the Sirius XM Edge is that it can be as simple as you want it to be right out of the box, yet can be customized to meet deeper needs if desired. Brightness level, audio level, and features such as favorite channels are great add-ons that many consumers want. With the Edge, you can literally plug it in and go, as the factory settings are already great for the average user.

TSS-Radio has the Edge and all Sirius XM accessories in stock , and even offers a few things those big box stores can not match. For example, TSS gives the consumer the choice of a vehicle kit or home kit, making the flexibility even greater. With free shipping, TSS-Radio has all of your satellite radio needs covered.

I Give Edge a Thumbs up!

The Sirius Starmate 8 appears to be a Sirius branded XM Onyx with a few bells and whistles. It is unclear whether or not the Starmate 8 will be capable of receiving the new channels offered by Sirius XM, but it is the first Sirius branded receiver released by the company in some time.

Product Features Include

  • Pause, rewind and replay up to 30 minutes of live satellite radio.
  • View artist name, song title, and channel information on the large color display.
  • Listen at home, at the office, outdoors or in multiple vehicles with optional accessory kits - all with just one subscription.
  • Hear SiriusXM through your existing vehicle radio with easy, do-it-yourself installation.*
  • Browse other channels while listening to the current one.
  • Store up to 10 of your favorite channels for one-touch access.
  • Choose from six different display colors to match your dash lights, and personalize with the trim rings.
  • Lock and unlock channels with mature content using easy-to-use parental control.
  • Optimize PowerConnect performance with easy FM tuning.
  • One-Touch Jump to traffic and weather for the city of your choice, or back to your previous channel.
  • Includes PowerConnect Vehicle Kit.
  • Supports A La Carte programming selection.
  • Works on the Sirius network.
  • *Requires an FM radio or Aux In capability. Use the included Aux In cable if your vehicle has Aux In capability for best performance. Will also work with cassette adapter (sold separately)

The pause, rewind, a-la-carte, and some new labels appear to be the distinct characteristics that make the Starmate 8 a distinctly different radio than the XM Onyx. While rumors of the Starmate 8 have been around for a few months now, it has not really been a confirmed. Best Buy lists the Starmate 8 for $139 including a vehicle kit.

Is Sirius XM’s Lynx A Game Changer? http://siriusbuzz.com/is-sirius-xms-lynx-a-game-changer.php http://siriusbuzz.com/is-sirius-xms-lynx-a-game-changer.php#comments Fri, 14 Oct 2011 15:08:06 +0000 http://siriusbuzz.com/?p=9630 → Read More]]> Sirius XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) is launching a few new retail products in conjunction with their Satellite Radio 2.0 launch. The company has not delivered new retail products in quite some time, so there is some excitement for SIRI investors relating to the prospects of a new product launch. The question is whether or not these new radio's will be a game changer for Sirius XM?

The simple answer is that no, these new retail offerings, such as the Lynx will not change the dynamics of the satellite radio business. However, they do have capabilities that core satellite radio fans will be attracted to. If you have followed this site for any length of time you will be aware that while I am a fan and investor of satellite radio, I do not tend to blow smoke. I call things the way they are, not they way I wish they would be.

First things first. The lynx does offer a new form factor, and new operating system (based on Android). These should be welcomed changes for satellite radio fans. The downside is that the concept of the Lynx is not that far removed from the Sirius S50 that hit retail shelves about 5 years ago.

If you recall, the S50 was not a wearable satellite radio per-se. Instead, it recorded content for you, allowed you to "love" and save songs, and could be used as a sort of MP3 player. If you wanted satellite radio on the go, you had to purchase specialized headphones that included a satellite radio antenna. In a car or home dock the S50 was satellite capable because the dock was connected to an antenna.

This is how the new Lynx will work. If you are looking for it to deliver satellite content on the go (wearable), then you will be disappointed. Simply stated, the technology is not there to make a wearable satellite radio very viable at this point. It is one of the main reasons why I believe that we will not see a iPhone with satellite radio any time soon. Satellite radio is simply not conducive as a wearable device.

If I was a new consumer faced with a choice of The Sirius XM Lynx or an iPod Touch, I believe the choice to be quite simple. The iPod Touch is far more capable. An iPod Touch (utilizing Sirius XM's SkyDock app) combined with a Skydock is a much more useful system than the Sirius XM Lynx. Further, the app can be updated to offer almost anything that the Lynx can do.

Lynx will feature:

  • Revolutionary SiriusXM PowerConnect™ FM Transmitter works through your vehicle’s radio with easy Do-It Yourself Installation. The color-coded Vehicle Dock makes it simple to connect.
  • Customize your display by choosing the backlight color theme that matches your mood or vehicle dash lights.
  • Personalize your radio by choosing the trim ring that reflects your taste or complements your vehicle interior.
  • View artist name, song title, and channel information on the large color display.
  • Browse programs, artists, and songs playing on other channels without having to change the channel.
  • One-Touch Jump™ to traffic and weather of the 20 most congested cities, or to the previous channel to which you
    were listening.
  • Save and enjoy fast access to your favorite channels.
  • Lock and unlock channels with easy-to-use parental controls.
  • Complete PowerConnect Vehicle Kit included.
  • Universal docking capability – add accessories for your home, office, additional vehicles or even outdoors.
  • Connectivity could be achieved via Satellite, WiFi, Bluetooth & USB.

The possible game changer with Sirius XM is not so much the new retail hardware, but rather the new capabilities offered by satellite radio 2.0. As long as Sirius XM makes these capabilities available through their apps on smartphones and iPods, I see many opting for an iPod/smartphone option over the Lynx.

For those that are already using retail hardware the lynx is a great upgrade, and can help invigorate a lackluster retail channel.
