Bubba The Love Sponge Returns to Terrestrial Radio
Just hours after Bubba announced that he would be staying at Sirius for another year the St. Petersburg Times are reporting that Bubba will be broadcasting on Cox Radio stations in Tampa and Jacksonville in a deal valued at seven figures. This will mark Bubba’s first return to the airwaves since he was fined $775k and dumped by Clear Channel almost 4 years ago!
Starting Jan. 8, Bubba will take over morning drive slot on WHPT-102.5 FM (The Bone) in Tampa and WFYV-104.5 FM in Jacksonville, hosting a show from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. After which he will broadcast his show as normal on Howard 101 from 3-7PM Est.
“I want to do both (free radio and satellite), because I have a lot of unfinished business in the market,” said Clem, calling by cellphone this morning from New York City, where he celebrated his new deal with Sirius on boss Howard Stern’s radio show. “I never got to say goodbye to the fans. I was thrown off the air by Clear Channel — which hung me out to dry.”
I must say that I am truly shocked that Sirius is allowing this to happen. One has to wonder if Bubba will still be as good as he previously was after 4 hours on the terrestrial airwaves in the AM.
THIS GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DUMPED…LET HIM GO TO IPODS
I’m glad I don’t have to destroy my Sirius Radio now….I’m also intrigued to see if Bubba Podcasts his Local show…I’d love to hear it!
Charles, don’t be shocked about this at all. If Sirius truly wanted exclusivity, they’d have to pay for it. Bubba indicated that this deal is for no increase from last year.
What will happen to his Friday live show???
That is what I have been wondering. I cant get a straight answer or I would have already written an article about it.
You will we able to stream his FM show on http://theboneonline.com the station’s site.
SIRIUS YOU DID THE RIGHT MOVE FOR YOUR COMPANY BY RESIGNING BUBBA THANK YOU
The Friday live show on Sirius will be no longer. After listening to Bubba on Sirius, I don’t think I could listen to him on terrestrial radio because he’d be so watered down. I realize he’ll still be funny, and when you think about it, he really only has to fill half as much time as on Sirius due to the commmercials.
I listen to Bubba and like most of his antics. The way he bitches now after a night of no sleep bla bla bla. All the other bitchin he does how is he going to do a show in the morning then one in the afternoon. I give him a month and he will be ready to quit. I say let him go to testicle radio and finish his business. He claims to be in Howards corner but you know in the back of his mind he is just boiling at the attention and money the others get. There is a reason why. You have to be original. Ok he came up with shock collar whatever. I been watchin rednecks mess with shock collars for years they just didn’t copywrite it.
I don’t understand SIRIUS not giving him a raise. He is a big part of their operation. Howard was always bitching about exclusivity with Oprah. Now that is gone from one of “his” people. You can stream the Bone in the morning making it an internet radio. Bubba will only be doing afternoon shows on SIRIUS Monday-Friday. The morning shows are gone acording to Brent the other day. So Fridays you get Howard reruns.
W.T.F?????
BUBBA`S MY BOY & EVERYTHING BUT I CANT WAIT TO SEE HOW HE PULLS “ALL” THIS OFF???
BUBBA IS BACK AND I AM GLAD FOR THAT I LISTEN EVERY MORNING 102.5 ROCKS
I was (and continue to be) a Stern fan…I was skeptical about Bubba from the start…But, after listening and giving him a chance because Howard said so…I love his show…Sometimes it borders on being disturbing…But, mostly…it’s just alot of regular guys talking about “guy” things…
That being said…I can’t help but think that his show will suffer…It can’t have the same energy…And, whatever the discuss in the morning won’t be original in the afternoon…This won’t last, unfortunately…Bubba will probably only be complaining during his afternoon show…Not being creative…
Bubba the Love Sponge ROCKS! The team has the best chemistry on radio anywhere. Even Howard seems a lot more reserve than pushing the envelope on his shows. Bubbais crazy and spastic, but it makes the show so funny its amazing. Ned’s parodies are second to none. Bubba has been screwed over by the government as much as Howard has and now it is comming around full circle and he is back in the lime light. Definately right that he should be cashing in on it for himself and his team. Sirius has made a great investment on Bubba and they are definately getting it back 100 fold. I wish we could see radio ratings based on channels on Sirius. That would show the definitive answer. I am curious how Howard is not stepping in on apparent “censorship” that they seem to now be imposing on Bubba. He talks about having to submit programs to the corporate and they call in and stop certain bits. It seems almost like Bubba is the new “Howard for modern times.” Howards realized his dream and made it happen and now the torch seems to pass on to Bubba to take the fight into the next decades.
