The NPD data for August 2007 has been released. The NPD Group is the leading global provider of consumer and retail market research information for a wide range of industries. They provide critical consumer behavior and point-of-sale (POS) information and industry expertise across more industries than any other market research company.

The most recent data shows that retail sales are seeing some slight improvement on a year over year comparison basis. Sirius showed sequential growth on a month over month basis. XM’s NPD number for August is suggestive that XM’s retail net additions for Q3 could be minimal, and unless there is a stark improvement in September a negative NET retail number could be in the cards for the quarter. Thankfully, XM’s OEM partners are ramping up, and that should offset the retail channel.
